PRESS RELEASE

U.S. Army to Exhibit Soldier Training Before Congress on Capitol Hill

Orlando, Fla. (January 30, 2009) - The U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) will host its 12th annual Capitol Hill Demonstration in Washington, D.C., where members of Congress and their staffs will have the chance to experience interactive military simulations and training devices that currently prepare Warfighters for their missions.

"I look forward to educating our congressmen and congresswomen on the extraordinary things PEO STRI does to support our Nation during a very trying time in our country's history," said Dr. James Blake, Program Executive Officer for PEO STRI.

Congress members and their staffs are invited to visit the displays Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. in the Dirksen Auditorium, Room G-50, and Thursday, Feb. 5 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. in the Rayburn Foyer. The media is also welcome to attend!

In the past, the event has attracted more than 700 senators, representatives and congressional staffers.

"We take the opportunity to be on Capitol Hill to get the Army's message out and highlight PEO STRI's programs," Blake said. This year, PEO STRI will be exhibiting more than a dozen devices to include:

  • The Laser Marksmanship Training System, a Commercial Off-the-Shelf laser marksmanship training system in which Soldiers train with their actual weapon;
  • The Intelligence Electronic Warfare Tactical Proficiency Trainer Human Intelligence Control Cell, a tactical questioning trainer that offers intelligence units sustainment instruction in examination skills for situations when an interpreter is required;
  • The Medical Simulation Training Center, a combat casualty care instruction facility designed to reduce the died-of-wounds rate on the battlefield by providing Soldiers with the skills to save wounded Warfighters in combat; and
  • The Construction Equipment Virtual Trainer Hydraulic Excavator Simulator, a device that trains Soldiers on the principles of operating construction equipment prior to getting in the actual construction vehicle.

Sens. Mel Martinez and Bill Nelson, along with Rep. Randy Forbes, are sponsoring this year's Capitol Hill Demonstration.

R.S.V.P. to Kristen A. McCullough, U.S. Army PEO STRI Public Affairs Officer, to gain access to the event.
