Orlando, FL April 3, 2006 - The U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) awarded a contract valued at $17 million to CAE USA, Tampa, Fla. Under the Synthetic Environment Core (SE-Core) Database Virtual Environment Development (DVED) contract, CAE USA will develop rapid database production processes and tools, and establish an Orlando-based database production center supporting the Armys Common Virtual Environment (CVE). The total value of the contract could reach an estimated $59 million over the next five years.
SE Cores mission is to provide a CVE integrated within the Live, Virtual, and Constructive Training Environment (LVC TE). SE Core will develop the CVE by linking virtual simulations into a fully integrated training capability through new virtual simulation architecture. This linkage of current and future virtual training devices will enable the Army to execute combined arms and joint training, mission planning and rehearsals at home station, en route, and at deployed locations.
"Our aim is to provide a common virtual environment that seamlessly interoperates with the Armys live and constructive training systems," said Colonel Craig Langhauser, Project Manager for the Combined Arms Tactical Trainer (PM CATT). "The SE Core program breaks new ground by diverging from the traditional approach of procuring databases. The use of a common master database and centralized database production centers will streamline database production, significantly reduce costs, and most importantly, meet the training and mission rehearsal needs of the Warfighter."
Headquartered in Orlando, Fla., PEO STRI executes an annual budget of over $1.9 billion. In addition to providing interoperable training, testing, simulation solutions, and program management, the PEO provides life-cycle support and operations for most of the Armys training systems around the world. PEO STRI is dedicated to putting the power of simulation into the hands of our Warfighters.
