Mission
To provide state-of-the-art technology replacement for the aging fleet of optical tracking systems at Department of Defense (DoD) test ranges.
Description
Advanced Range Tracking and Imaging System (ARTIS) solution will consist of two different optical tracking systems. The first optical tracking system is a highly dynamic Close-In Optical Tracking System that will provide improved support capabilities for high-dynamic launch and impact requirements, as well as ground-based testing scenarios. The second system is a Fly-Out Optical Tracking System that will support longer range imaging requirements to include ballistic missile fly-outs, mid-course tracking, and high-altitude intercepts. Both systems will incorporate multi-waveband optics to allow simultaneous sensing in the visible and infrared bands. Computer automation, remote operability, weatherization, and improved data fusion with other range sensor systems will provide the efficiency and robustness that is not available with the current architecture.
Under Central Test and Evaluation Investment Program (CTEIP) funding, ARTIS will design, develop, integrate, and test two Close-In and two Fly-Out Optical Tracking Systems. The CTEIP-funded portion of the project will conclude with the successful testing and fielding of these four prototype systems at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. ARTIS development will occur under an Other Transaction Authority effort. The manufacturing and fielding of additional systems for Army, Navy and Air Force Test Ranges will be under a separate contract. Each Service will separately fund and maintain any additional systems it may require.
