Mobile High Energy Laser Measurement (MHELM)

PM CT2

Mission

Joint Improvement Modernization (JIM) project funded by Central Test and Evaluation Investment Program (CTEIP) & Director Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E)  that provides advanced instrumentation needed by DoD test centers for High Energy Laser Systems Test Facility (HELSTF), Army’s Targets Management Office (TMO), Naval Air Warfare Center-Weapons Division (NACWD) to test and evaluate DoD High Energy Laser (HEL) systems.

Description

MHELM will deliver capabilities to address the following High Energy Laser (HEL) test and evaluation (T&E) needs:

Open Air Dynamic Test

1A. Subsonic Cruise Missiles (CM) Irradiance Measurement
1B. small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) Irradiance Measurement
1C. Supersonic Missiles Irradiance Measurement
1D. Various Static and Slow-Moving Targets Irradiance Measurement
1E. Unmanned Aerial Systems Groups 3&4 Irradiance Measurement

Ground Test

2. Laser Integrated Diagnostic Suite (LIDS): Will satisfy the Need to verify the performance of installed HEL systems in outdoor static configurations before proceeding to testing in operationally representative dynamic scenarios
3. Range in a Box (RiB): Will provide the Ability to test HEL systems before and after integration onto a weapons platform

Test Planning

4A. Reflected Irradiance Measurement System (RIMS): Will provide High fidelity measurements of HEL reflections off targets at various distances/angles to validate target reflection hazard predictions
4B. Test Support Software for planning and safety
