Mission
Provides automated objective scoring for aviation gunnery crew qualification and training to include Apache weapon system.
Description
AWSS is a near to real-time objective scoring system that supports live Army aviation gunnery training. AWSS provides scoring for 2.75-inch training rockets (point detonation, multipurpose submunitions and flechette), area scoring/hit location for a variety of machine gun weapons, and laser scoring of the Hellfire missile.
There are four (4) CONUS and two (2) OCONUS portable systems, and seven (7) permanent systems on Digital Range Training Systems (DRTS) ranges. Current AWSS hardware and software components began fielding in 2004 and have been partially upgraded over the lifecycle of the program. Current AWSS are in sustainment.
